I was asked
to share how I paint by some of the guys at the store I play at (Area 51) so I thought I would share. First
of is my take on painting: In my opinion painting must be fast but good, taking to long to paint a mini to me is as pointless as
playing with one that looks like you dumped paint on it. I will not substitute quality for speed so the balance is what is
important. Most minis I do in one to two hours, and some like Fiona the Black took up to seven hours.
Now to get to it, I will be painting Durgen Madhammer for this How-To and to try and give a idea of my speed I will put
"Time Painted" time stamps every few steps. I start with a primed mini that has sat for about twenty four hours, as
that is what the primer I use says is optimal for curing time, and I hot glue the mini to a cork stopper.

First up is
the eyes. I start with Morrow White for the whites and use one stroke from nose to ear. Next I add eye color for
Madhammer's eye, I used Iosan Green for the eye and Meredius Blue for the lenses, and last I add the pupil.
![h2eyes1.jpg](sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/h2eyes1.jpg)
Now for the rest of the face. Starting with a base coat of Khardic Flesh then I wet blend up from 50/50
Khardic Flesh/Midlund Flesh, then Midlund Flesh, and last 50/50 Midlund Flesh/Ryn Flesh on the tip of the nose around the
eyes lips and such. Next I did the metal around the eye with Cold Steel and the hair I used Skorne Red a wash
of GW Badab Black and a highlight of Skorne Red again. For the teath I used a base coat of Idrian Flesh and painted on the
teath with Menoth White Base.

Next up is
the Armor plates. I will be using Beaten Purple to match the rest of my purple dwarfs of DOOM! I start with a base coat
on all the amour plates of the Purple, then I wet blend for the shading using Morrow White. For the shading I mix up
about 80/20 Beaten Purple/Morrow White and 70/30 then lay down another coat of the Beaten Purple on about three plates
and wet blend them with the two mixes then repeat of the next three till done.

Now for all the metalics. I start with all the silver using Cold Steel then do the gold with Rhulic Gold.

Now for the
slower harder stuff, the fine detail work. The nice thing is that this is where I think (along with the face) is where
you get the most bang for the buck. First I do a base coat of Menoth White Base on all the white and light blue areas: gauges
on the hammer, glowing parts, and the bombs on his back. Next I use Skorne Red for the checks and lines Moldy Ochre for the
last one and Meredius Blue for the hammers glow. Next I highlight it all, no blending need on the lines and checks just
a nice highlight line, for the highlights I used Khador Red Base, Cygus Yellow. On the Hammer I wet blended Meredius
Blue with Morrow White till I got the desired glowing effect.

Now he just
needs a base. I do the base when I am about to finish and need to do things like armor wash and a touch up. So
I start by gluing some cork down to the base for a nice rock base. While that dries I did the blue cloth on his armor
and did any touch up needed. Next I painted the cork with GW Chaos Black and added touches of Armor Wash to some spots on the metal where shading was needed. Then i finished the base up with a
dry brush of Bastion Gray, then Hammerfall Khaki, and a stippling of Ordic Olive. Next I glued down some fine Talus
rock and then some static grass and Woot the base is done!

And last and best of all is gluing him down to his base and painting his facing markers and he is DONE! Now just have
to let all the glue dry then I can set up and take his pic :D.
